Tips For Your Home Appliances

When you care for your home, you want to make sure you don't forget any important areas. Along with ensuring the roof, gutters, plumbing, electrical, security, HVAC system, and all the other areas are performing well, you also want to make sure you pay enough attention to your appliances. Here are appliance tips to follow as you continue to do your best to keep your home and everything in it in good shape:

Caring for the refrigerator – You want to keep some frozen goods in the freezer, even when you are cleaning it out. This helps keep things cold without the unit working so hard. Check the stripping around the doors of the fridge and the freezer and be sure to replace it if it is getting worn, cracking, or starting to come off. Unplug the unit once in a while, and use the hose end of your vacuum cleaner with the brush attached to clean off the coils. They may be found in the back of the unit or along the bottom portion of it.

Caring for your dishwasher – You want to make sure you look for any signs of leaks near the dishwasher, and have someone come out to repair them if you find them. Also, check the stripping around the door regularly, and have it replaced if it shows signs of wear or other problems. Make sure the unit is still getting the water as hot as it always has, and check to see that none of the inside components are cracked or showing other signs of breaking or wearing.

Caring for your microwave – Keep the inside of your microwave cleaned out regularly; remember to remove the glass plate on the bottom, and clean it as well. Make sure the spinner at the bottom is still turning the plate as it is supposed to. If the spinner isn't working, then the microwave will heat your food in an uneven manner where some of it will burn while some may remain uncooked.

Caring for your washer – The washer needs to be on level ground, and you should not notice it moving while in use. Remove clothes right away to avoid the basin from developing a stale or mildew odor. Never put too big of a load into the washer, and avoid washing things like heavy shoes in the washer.

Caring for your drier – The drier should also be level, and you don't want it to move when working, either. Like the washer, don't put too big of a load in it, and avoid washing heavy shoes. Always remove all lint from your lint screen prior to starting your next load.

Caring for your stove – Read the manual to learn all the ways you can correctly clean the different areas of the stove and oven. You may not know the different sections that can open up, so you can really get them clean. Remove the knobs to clean them, and push them back in place gently, but firmly.
